Welcome to the punk page.

The Sex Pistols The Sex Pistols formed in 1972, after being discovered by their friend Malcolm McLaren, who owned a nearby clothing store. The band was at first made up of Paul Cook (drums), Steve Jones (vocals), Glen Matlock (bass) and Wally Nightingale (guitar). In 1975, Nightingale left the band and Jones moved to the guitar, leaving the band looking for a singer. They met John Lydon at Mclaren's shop, recently renamed Sex, and asked him to join as singer. During 1976 they were banned from all but 3 of 19 gigs and they signed to EMI records for £40,000. However the group were dropped later in the later due to the controversy surrounding them.
In 1977, Glen Matlock was replaced on bass by Lydon's old friend Sid Vicious. The Pistols signed to A&M records but were dropped again, only six days after signing. They quickly signed to Virgin records. Their debut album, Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, entered the UK chart at number 1, displacing Cliff Richard's Golden Greats.
The Pistols embarked on a US tour in January 1978, having played their last ever gig in Britain to an audience of mainly children. They then played their last live show, in California. The band split up and went their separate ways. Sid Vicious died in 1979 just before he was due to go on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
